Product Feed Errors That Trigger Google Shopping Suspensions

Product feed errors that trigger Google Shopping suspensions — guide illustration

Product feed errors are one of the most common reasons Google Shopping listings get disapproved, and repeated or widespread feed errors are also a real trigger for account-level suspensions. Fixing product feed errors in Google Merchant Center starts with knowing which fields Google checks most closely — price, availability, GTIN/identifiers, and shipping — and matching your feed to what’s actually true on your website, since mismatches between the two are the single most common cause.

The product feed errors that show up most often

  • Price mismatch — the price in your feed doesn’t match the price shown on your website’s product page at the moment Google checks it.
  • Availability mismatch — a product marked “in stock” in the feed that’s actually sold out or backordered on the site.
  • Missing or invalid GTIN/identifiers — required for most new products in established categories; missing them triggers an automatic disapproval.
  • Incorrect or missing shipping data — shipping cost or delivery time in the feed that doesn’t match what’s disclosed on your site.
  • Image issues — placeholder images, watermarks, or promotional text/overlays on the product image itself, which Google’s image policy disallows.
  • Landing page mismatch — the product link in your feed doesn’t lead to a working, matching product page (redirects, 404s, or out-of-stock pages count).

Why feed errors escalate from disapprovals to suspensions

A single disapproved product is normal and usually easy to fix. The risk is scale and pattern: when the same type of error (price mismatches, missing shipping data) shows up across a large share of your catalog, or the same issue persists across multiple feed uploads without being corrected, Google can treat it as a systemic data-quality problem rather than an isolated mistake — and that’s what moves it from individual disapprovals toward an account-level suspension for misrepresentation or policy violation.

Where to find what’s actually flagged

Merchant Center’s Diagnostics page (under Products) lists every active issue by type, with an affected-item count and examples. That’s the starting point — but it shows the symptom Google detected, not always the underlying cause. A price error, for instance, might come from currency formatting, a caching delay between your site and your feed source, or a promotional price your feed isn’t accounting for; the fix depends on which one it actually is.

Fixing errors at the source, not just in the feed

It’s tempting to patch a feed error by editing the feed file directly, but if your feed is generated automatically from your store platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, and similar), a manual feed edit gets overwritten on the next sync. The durable fix is almost always upstream — correcting the product data in your store itself, or fixing the app/plugin/settings generating the feed — so the correction survives every future feed refresh instead of needing to be redone.

Preventing feed errors from recurring

Once your feed is clean, keeping it clean means checking the Diagnostics page after any pricing change, sale, or inventory update rather than only when something breaks, keeping shipping settings identical between your store and your feed configuration, and reviewing new products against Google’s identifier and image requirements before they go live rather than after they’re flagged.

How GMC Fixer approaches feed errors

We start from the Diagnostics data but verify the real cause on your actual store and feed source before changing anything, then fix it upstream so it doesn’t reappear on the next sync, as part of our Google Merchant Center suspension recovery service. If feed-level issues are part of what’s behind a suspension, we address them alongside the broader policy review covered in our guide on why Google Merchant Center suspends accounts and what to expect during reinstatement.
